Want to cook a gourmet meal but don't know where to get all the ingredients the recipes calls for? Here is a simple solution, just go to Crawford Market where you will find all the ingredients your special meal and much more!

This post was originally written for mumbai.metrotwincom, where I am a regular writer http://mumbai.metrotwin.com/2009/09/crawford-market-a-one-stop-shop-for-everyone-who-takes-cooking-seriously/

Mahatma Phule Market, commonly known to Mumbaikers as Crawford Market, is an old heritage building located at the north end of Chatrapati Shivaji Terminus, formerly known as V.T. station. Crawford Market was named for the first Municipal Commissioner of Mumbai, Arthur Crawford but its name was changed to Mahatma Phule Market after India’s Independence.

Crawford Market is one of the biggest wholesale markets in Mumbai and is the ideal place to buy the freshest fruits and vegetables. Not only do you get a large variety of regular vegetables but also many exotic selections like broccoli and zucchini, fresh herbs like oregano and kaffir lime leaves as well as salad ingredients such as rocket leaves, chinese lettuce and brussel sprouts. The best fruits of the season are sold at affordable prices and are definitely cheaper than those available at any local vegetable and fruit vendor in Mumbai.

The market is also famous stores that sell imported good such as chocolates, cheeses, sauces, cereals, shampoos, perfumes and other toiletries. Paper and Cane products are also found in large varieties. Crawford Market is also the main source of all kinds of baking goods like moulds, yeast, cake gels, cooking chocolates, and liquid glucose as well as decorative items like sprinkles and chocolate chips.

If you are looking for ingredients to make a gourmet meal, look no further than Crawford Market. Since I entered the food business, this colorful market has become the source of all my supplies.

Who doesn't love donuts? I have lived in the States for a couple of years and donuts from Dunkin Donuts and Krispy Kreme were my favorite. After moving back to Mumbai it was hard to get donuts similar to the ones I used to eat abroad until Mad Over Donuts opened! The donuts are divine and irresistible. Continue reading to fall madly in love with M.O.D

This post was originally written for mumbai.metrotwin.com where I am a regular food writer http://mumbai.metrotwin.com/2009/09/crazy-about-donuts-now-go-mad-over-donuts/

Just as the tag line on their website says, its all about falling madly in love with donuts!

The first sight of donuts at M.O.D will make your heart melt and your mouth water. This little bright orange brown store makes the freshest and the most amazing donuts in Mumbai. They are lightly crispy from the outside and soft, spongy on the inside, a perfect combination! These donuts have made a special place in everyone’s heart with their consistent quality and variety of flavors. You can pick a traditional ring donut, which is available in a lot of yummy flavors like the ‘original’ glazed and ‘cinnaster’ cinnamon sugar coated donuts, which are divine and my favorite. If you don’t have a sweet tooth you can choose one of the savory, cheesy, herby ring donuts. But, why stop there? If you want more from your donut, try one of the filled donuts which are oozing with goodness. I love the ‘blush factor’-filled donut, filled with strawberry compote and the ‘double trouble’, filled with chocolate ganache.

A single donut is available for Rs. 40 and if you get a box of 5 you get 1 free just for Rs. 200. If you are a fruity person, try the new fruit range which includes exotic flavors like passion fruit, raspberry and kiwi. The fact that M.O.D’s introduces new flavors every month is impressive and makes you want to go there to try their new hit combination’s. Since it is open late, donuts have become one of the favorite desserts of Mumbai. Mad Over Donuts have their shops at:

Breach Candy

Colaba Causeway

Carter Road, Bandra

Inorbit Mall, Malad and

Oberoi Mall, Goregaon.

Overall, M.O.D’s donuts are value for money, an anytime satisfaction for your sweet tooth, and a truly addictive love!
